Introduction

The present tense is one of the best things about the Turkish language as it makes grammar a lot easier in the sense that you can rely solely on this tense for a large part of everyday conversatıons when used right.

Lesson Summary

Step 1


Remove the -mak/mek suffix that is found in the infinitive of the verb to get the actual verb.


Step 2


If the actual verb ends in a vowel, remove that too.


Step 3


Add, -iyor, uyor, ıyor, or -üyor as per the letter rules (vowel pairs).



Step 4


Add the 'verb to be' personal suffix.

Examples

Example 1:


Bebek = baby

Uyu = sleep

Bebek uyuyor.

The baby is sleeping


Example 2:


Saat = hour

Sekiz = eight

Uyan = wake up

Saat sekizde uyanıyorum

I wake up at 8 o'clock


Example 3:


Yarın = tomorrow

Gel = come

Yarın geliyorum.

I am coming tomorrow.


Example 4:


Türkçe = Turish

Sev = love

Türkçe'yi seviyorum.

I love Turkish.
